Our Veterinarian

Get to know your pet’s health care team before you visit! Our veterinarian, Dr. Leppanen, is highly skilled in orthopedic surgery, which deals with more complex procedures that involve the bones and joints. We're proud to be able to perform these advanced procedures in our hospital, saving you the trouble of being referred out to a specialist.

Dr. Joseph Leppanen

Dr. Leppanen combines his great love and appreciation for animals and his passions for science and medicine into his daily practice. He earned his DVM from Michigan State University in 1985 and he returned to his alma mater over the years for continuing education in advanced surgery, including orthopedics.

What Does It Mean to Be Fear Free?

At Pennsylvania Veterinary Care, our entire staff is Fear Free Certified. The Fear Free movement in veterinary medicine focuses on your pet’s emotional well-being and strives to reduce stress in the veterinary clinic. Pets who are stressed can give us inaccurate blood work, may not cooperate with us for treatment, and are simply less healthy than happy, stress-free pets. With our staff’s training in Fear Free techniques, we’re able to reduce stress and help pets relax in the clinic. We use low-stress handling, food motivation (aka lots of treats!), pheromone sprays, and other techniques to help your pet enjoy their visit with us!
